On July 28th, the Network hosted a meeting concerning Sealed Units with the Bronx Public Administrator Matilde B. Sanchez, Esq., the Bronx Surrogate’s Court’s Associate Court Attorney Wendy Silva, Esq., and Richmond County’s Surrogate’s Court’s Chief Clerk Ronald Cerrachio. As a follow-up we have crafted a comprehensive Sealed Unit Guide. Additionally, we have created an updated version of our Sealed Unit survey to keep track of the units that are sealed from our members.

Black Women Equal Pay Day

On August 3rd, the Network joined PowHer New York, a statewide network of over 100 gender and racial justice organizations, for a virtual rally with advocates and elected officials to bring attention to the drastic wage gap nationally and locally for Black women who make $0.63 on the dollar compared to their white male counterparts.

On August 9th, Senator Schumer released spending level proposals for the $3.5 Trillion budget reconciliation bill, allocating $332 billion to the Housing and Financial Services committee to address housing needs, including the HoUSed campaign priorities.  The committee, chaired by Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio, will decide individual spending levels. We expect to see $45 billion in the National Housing Trust Fund and substantial increases in rental assistance included. Chair Brown has been working with Chair Waters to align their housing priorities.

On July 22nd, DePaul joined development and government partners as well as elected officials to break ground on Veddersburg Apartments, a new affordable/supportive residence providing 62 homes to a mix of individuals with mental health diagnoses and local income-eligible households.
