The Human Services Council launched the #JustPay Campaign, dedicated to “fighting to end government-sanctioned poverty wages for human services workers”. The campaign launched on Monday, October 25th with a week of action targeting the Mayor’s office, City Council, the Governor and incoming City Council members. Currently, the campaign is urging the City to include a 3% COLA in the November Budget Modification.
The campaign also seeks to implement changes around equitable pay among human service workers with emphasis on these core reforms:
Establish, fund and enforce an automatic annual cost-of-living adjustment on all human services contracts
Set a living wage floor of no less than $21/hr for all City and State funded human service workers
Create, fund and incorporate a comprehensive wage and benefit schedule for government contracted human service workers comparable to the salaries made by City and State employees in the same field
Both organizations and individuals can sign on to the Campaign to receive updates and advocacy alerts. We strongly encourage our member organizations to be active participants in the Campaign, joining in on social media, and participating in call-in and letter writing.
