NYS HCR Announced 9% Awards

New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) announced the Summer 2021 9% Multifamily awards in December. A total of 21 affordable housing projects received awards, two thirds of which have a supportive housing component resulting in funding 277 supportive out of a total of 1,178 affordable (24%). In all, the announcement included $23 million in Low Income Housing Tax Credits, which will generate over $200 million in private investments. An additional $23 million in Supportive Housing Opportunity Program (SHOP) as well as several other capital resources are included in the spring awards.
Mayor Adams Appoints Affordable Housing Leadership Team

On Sunday January 30th, Mayor Adams announced the team that will lead his administration’s affordable/supportive housing strategy, which will be led by lifelong housing advocate Jessica Katz as the City’s first Chief Housing Officer. Adolfo Carrión Jr. will serve as Commissioner of the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) and Eric Enderlin will continue serving as the President of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

NYSSHP Funding Announced

On December 16th, New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) announced $40 million in funding under its New York State Supportive Housing Program (NYSSHP) $39 million of which renews funding for existing programs, and $691,000 for 6 newly funded agencies. NYSSHP provides a small amount of services funding to serve homeless individuals, young adults and families in more than 17,000 units of supportive housing statewide, 10,000 of which are in NYC in partnership with the Department of Homeless Services.
ESSHI 6th Year Conditional Awards Announced

Governor Hochul announced the 6th year of conditional Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) awards in December. A total of 192 projects totaling over 7,800 supportive housing units received conditional awards for service and operating funding. Over 80% of these projects (155) are proposed by Network members. A portion of these projects – at least 1,400 units in total – will move into the permanent pipeline over the next twelve months. This marks the first time that ESSHI conditional awards have an additional year to secure capital funding.
