Comunilife Breaks Ground on the Comunilife Throop Residence

On April 27th, Comunilife joined Health and Hospitals (NYC H+H) and other project partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of new affordable and supportive housing residence, The Comunilife Throop Residence. Located in Brooklyn, the Residence will create 93 affordable apartments, including 56 supportive for NYC Health + Hospitals patients, and 21 units for very low-income seniors. On-site service are provided by Comunilife funded through NYC 15/15 administered by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH).

The Network applauds Speaker Adrienne Adams, Mental Health Committee Chair Linda Lee, Majority Leader Keith Powers, and the entire City Council for putting forward a holistic Mental Health Roadmap that calls for targeted investments in the historically underfunded mental health infrastructure and addresses the workforce crisis.

April 22nd was Earth Day and serves as an important reminder of the environmental challenges we face, including climate change and pollution. It’s also important to recognize that these issues do not affect everyone equally. Environmental racism is a form of systemic discrimination through which marginalized communities, especially communities of color, are disproportionately exposed to environmental hazards and pollution. This puts marginalized communities at a greater risk of health problems and can lead to long-term harm. Climate change has only exacerbated these issues, with rising temperatures and extreme weather events disproportionately affecting communities of color.
