On May 17th, The Bridge, together with Mega Contracting and Greenpoint Manufacturing & Design Center (GMDC), gathered to celebrate the literal groundbreaking for a groundbreaking new development - Bridge Rockaway - that combines 174 affordable apartments including 87 supportive with manufacturing space for up to 12 local businesses who will lease the space for below market rents.

On April 12th, Bethesda House joined government partners to break ground on Cara House, a permanent supportive and emergency housing for formerly homeless individuals. Located in Schenectady, Cara House will include 26 units of permanent supportive housing and 11 affordable units, with 16 emergency beds for adults experiencing homelessness and those re-entering the community from incarceration. Bethesda House will provide on-site services funded through the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI).

On a brisk February 24th, HELP USA joined project partners to break ground on HELP ONE buildings A and B. Once complete, HELP ONE will be a four-building affordable and supportive housing residence with over 500 affordable and supportive apartments. Buildings A and B will create 255 of the units, 154 of which are supportive for youth, individuals and families who have experienced homelessness. Supportive services will be provided by HELP though the NYC 15/15 Program.

On November 4, Homeward NYC joined co-developers Azimuth Development Group and Type A Projects along with partners and elected officials to break ground on Homeward Central Harlem, a new supportive housing residence providing homes to 50 formerly homeless LGBTQ young adults. The nine-story building with 50 fully-furnished studio apartments will be located on W. 118th Street.

On the brisk morning of October 25th, state and local elected officials, funding partners, and community members joined Services for the UnderServed (S:US) and Bronx Pro Group to herald construction for Jerome Ave. Apartments. It is the first housing groundbreaking within the Jerome Avenue Neighborhood Plan, an initiative to revitalize the Jerome Avenue corridor. Out of a total 175 affordable units, 105 will also be supportive units for formerly homeless individuals and families.
The project will be a “radical transformation and improvement of this site,” according to Arlo Chase, Senior Vice President of Real Estate & Property Development at S:US, who kicked off the event’s program. He explained the site’s history: S:US took over a neighborhood eyesore – colorfully referred to as a “hot sheets motel” – and turned it into Jerome Court, housing for individuals living with HIV/AIDS, at a time when such support was still uncommon. He said Jerome Ave. Apartments would expand on that honorable legacy.

On Sept. 10, construction cranes and crew were beginning the transformation of a lot in the Bronx while over 50 people gathered to celebrate what was to come. Breaking Ground gathered local elected officials, city and state representatives, funding partners, peer nonprofits, and other supporters for an official groundbreaking ceremony for Betances Residence, a 152-unit senior residence featuring 47 units for those who have experienced homelessness and 26 units specifically for current residents of New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) apartments. Center for Urban Community Services (CUCS), another Network member, is providing the onsite social services.
