On October 25th, the Network hosted its 2022 Annual Awards Gala: our first in-person gathering following a two-year virtual hiatus. Members and partners from across the entire supportive housing sector joined to celebrate our incredible community, to welcome the Network’s new Executive Director Pascale Leone, to honor two Outstanding Tenants of the Year -- Cynthia Hairston and Maliq Edwards and, of course, to network.

Network Board chair Brenda Rosen kicked off the program welcoming everyone back and stressing the critical work of the community, “The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated our already dire homeless and affordable housing crises and proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that housing is healthcare. Just about everything in life hinges upon the solid foundation of home.” She then gave a very warm welcome to the Networks new Executive Director, Pascale Leone.

Pascale—who came to us from CSH -- introduced herself to attendees giving  a brief synopsis of her work to date saying, “I’m so happy to continue this work alongside this incredible team & amazing membership. I look forward to deepening relationships and forging new ones as we work collectively to continue creating and sustaining supportive housing across New York State.”

Pascale then awarded the evening’s honorees, two outstanding tenants of the year: Cynthia Hairston and Maliq Edwards.

Named ‘the mayor’ by fellow tenants and staff at Lantern Community Services’ Clover Hall, Cynthia Hairston is known for her care, support and passion for her fellow-tenants and community. Learn more about Cynthia and watch her video here.

At Housing Works’ StandUp Harlem, Maliq Edwards showcases his resiliency and determination for personal growth and does so with a joyous spirit that is admired by both staff and fellow tenants.  Maliq’s transformation has inspired other StandUp Harlem tenants to see what making full-use of the staff support and supportive housing services can do. Learn more about Maliq and watch his video here.

During the event, a slideshow showcasing Network events, supportive housing events, new supportive housing residence groundbreakings and ribbon cuttings, and nominated tenants of the year. See the slideshow here.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, our fundraising committee and our sponsors, who made the event a success. View the gala journal here. View photos from the event here.
