This report offers an assessment of the Foster Youth Housing Initiative (FYHI), a California-based program to help former foster care youth obtain permanent housing. FYHI awarded grants to six nonprofit organizations that provide services and housing to former foster youth. This report finds that, overall, the initiative had a positive impact on the lives of those enrolled and helped save taxpayer dollars. For example, 64% of participants said it was "very true" that they felt more confident in their ability to find a job. Most impressive of all, the authors conclude that FYHI would generate a lifetime net savings of $90,000 in public sector money for every youth in the program. The report was written by Nancy Latham, Emily Boer Drake, Rachel Cuevas and Eiko Sugano.
