On October 19th, after 12 years in the making, Win broke ground in Brooklyn for a new affordable and supportive housing project, The Glenmore, which will provide homes for homeless individuals and families. The project is scheduled to open in the fall of 2017. The six-story building will feature 161 units of housing, with 96 units of supportive housing for families with disabilities and 65 units of affordable housing for individuals and families. The development will also include retail and community space on the ground floor as well as provide parking. Located a few blocks from the Broadway Junction station, The Glenmore will provide tenants with a mix of energy-efficient affordable and supportive housing and help anchor this part of Brownsville.
“We are overcome with the generosity of all of our funding partners, both public and private, that helped to make The Glenmore a reality,” said Bonnie Stone, President CEO of Win.
”NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development and NYC Housing Development Corporation spent the last year developing programs like the one that financed Win Glenmore that will increase production of housing for the most vulnerable New Yorkers, and reach deeper levels of affordability,” said HPD Commissioner Vicki Been. “In partnering with Win, with its long history of serving homeless women and children, and our many government and private partners we will soon see 161 new affordable homes in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn.”
Gary Rodney, President of HDC, said, “HDC is proud to partner with Win to create 161 quality, affordable homes accompanied by the supportive services that will offer families the tools they need to get back and remain on their feet.”
Other dignitaries at the ceremony included David Galdun of NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance Diana Reyna, the Deputy Brooklyn Borough president, Jennifer Trepinski of the Corporation for Supportive Housing, and Maurice Coleman of the Bank of America, Merrill Lynch.
Development financing came from NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development, Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program, NYC Housing Development Corporation, NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance Homeless Housing Assistance Program, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, CSH, and the Brooklyn Borough President. The Richman Group is the syndicator for the tax credits.
Services are provided through a NY/NY III contract from the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Win also received 96 Project Based Section 8 vouchers from HPD, which ensures residents will pay only 30% of their income towards rent.
