Transitional Services for New York Opens The Mieles

On September 15th, Transitional Services for New York Inc. (TSINY) joined city and state officials along with project and government partners to celebrate the opening of a new affordable/supportive housing residence located in Jamaica, Queens, the Mieles. The beautiful new building, which stands on the grounds of one of New York’s first supportive residences, creates 70 new affordable apartments, 42 of which are supportive for low-income seniors and chronically homeless individuals with psychiatric disabilities. TSINY will provide onsite services funded by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene through NYC 15/15 funding.
NYS HCR Releases 9% LIHTC RFP

The Fall 2022 9% Low Income Housing Tax Credit Request for Proposals was released September 29th by New York State Homes and Community Renewal. The application deadline is December 6, 2022. This is the second half of the annual allocation of several funding sources.

On September 21st, East House joined elected officials and project partners to break ground on a new affordable and supportive housing residence, Canal Commons. When complete, Canal Commons will create 123 new affordable apartments, including 70 supportive units, in Rochester. Onsite services will be provided by East House, funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) administered through NYS Office of Mental Health (OMH).

On September 15th, DePaul joined with state officials and partners to celebrate the opening of Lock 7 Apartments in Oswego, New York. Constructed on the former site of the Breneman Company, Lock 7 features 80 affordable apartments, of which 40 are supportive, reserved for individuals and families experiencing homelessness including seniors and those living with mental illness. On-site services are funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) and administered by the New York State Office of Mental Health.

In September, new term sheets for the New York State Housing Finance Agency (HFA) Affordable Rental Housing Program were announced. This funding supports the state’s 4% Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program and bond financing, along with several other capital programs. These funds are available through an open window procurement process.

On September 14th the Network joined the National Alliance to End Homelessness for its Annual Capitol Hill Day. The Network, Urban Pathways and Care for the Homeless along with providers and advocates with lived experience from across New York State met with representatives from 20 congressional offices urging them to support two budget priorities: $3.6 billion in overall funding for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Homeless Assistance Grants and $32.1 billion for the Tenant Based Rental Assistance account.

On July 14th YWCA of the Niagara Frontier joined project and government partners to celebrate the opening of their new supportive housing residence, 49 Tremont Street. Located in North Tonawanda, the residence is creating 12 new permanent supportive housing apartments for single survivors of domestic violence. Services are provided on-site by YWCA of the Niagara Frontier, funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) through New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA).

These two new supportive housing residences are creating 15 new homes for formerly homeless individuals, youth, and young parents.
