HSI Opens The Bedford

On June 22nd Housing and Services Inc. (HSI) joined government and project partners to open a new affordable/supportive housing residence, The Bedford, which is creating 108 new apartments, including 66 supportive housing units for families and seniors. HSI will provide on-site services funded by NYC 15/15.

Institute for Community Living Opens 50 Nevins

On May 9th, partners and supporters from both the State and City, including New York City Mayor Eric Adams, gathered to celebrate the opening of the Institute for Community Living’s new 129-unit supportive/affordable residence, built in part on the grounds of ICL’s first residence, which opened 35 years ago. The new building will provide 129 new apartments including 78 units for a mix of formerly homeless veterans, young adults and individuals coping with mental illness and substance abuse disorders.

Skyview Park Apartments Opens in Monroe County

May.04.2022

On May 4th, PathStone joined government partners for an opening ceremony of Skyview Park Apartments, a new affordable/supportive housing residence for seniors at the site of the former Irondequoit Mall in Monroe County. Skyview Park Apartments features 157 homes for adults 55 and older, including 78 supportive housing apartments for those at risk of homelessness and in need of support services.

Bethesda House Breaks Ground on Cara House

May.03.2022

On April 12th, Bethesda House joined government partners to break ground on Cara House, a permanent supportive and emergency housing for formerly homeless individuals. Located in Schenectady, Cara House will include 26 units of permanent supportive housing and 11 affordable units, with 16 emergency beds for adults experiencing homelessness and those re-entering the community from incarceration. Bethesda House will provide on-site services funded through the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI).

Eagle Star Housing Opens Liberty Square

May.03.2022

On May 3rd, Eagle Star Housing joined project partners for an opening ceremony of a new affordable/supportive residence, Liberty Square. Located in city of Batavia, the new residence is creating 55 apartments, of which 28 are supportive, set-aside for veterans experiencing homelessness. Six of the new residence’s units are accessible for people with mobility impairments and three for people with hearing or vision impairments.

Services for the UnderServed Tops Off Melrose North

On April 5th, Services for the UnderServed (S:US) and Bronx Pro Group gathered elected officials and community partners for a virtual topping off ceremony of a new affordable/supportive housing residence, Melrose North. Located in the Bronx, the residence will create 171 new units of affordable and supportive housing - 103 supportive units serving a mix of singles and families, as well as survivors of domestic violence. Once open, S:US will provide on-site services funded by NYC 15/15 and the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI).

Much Ado About Donna

Donna Colonna, who is retiring as CEO of Services for the UnderServed (S:US) at the end of this month will decidedly be missed. And while the excellent summary of her 50 years of service, including the last 25 at SUS) is comprehensive, it is not enough. Her contributions to supportive housing have been legion on every level: turbocharging S:US’s development of new supportive housing, innovating new practices to improve services, taking every opportunity to use new service options to improve care and being a thought leader on the intersection of housing, health and behavioral health.
