DePaul Opens Lock 7 Apartments

On September 15th, DePaul joined with state officials and partners to celebrate the opening of Lock 7 Apartments in Oswego, New York. Constructed on the former site of the Breneman Company, Lock 7 features 80 affordable apartments, of which 40 are supportive, reserved for individuals and families experiencing homelessness including seniors and those living with mental illness. On-site services are funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) and administered by the New York State Office of Mental Health.

On September 20th, New Destiny, BFC Partners and SMJ Development along with well-wishers and partners celebrated the official opening of The Kira in Jamaica, Queens. The affordable/supportive residence provides homes to 139 households including 69 units for families coming from NYC domestic violence shelters. Onsite services funded by the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) through the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative are provided by New Destiny.

Having begun to rent up just before the COVID lock-down, staff, electeds and project partners were finally able to safely celebrate the opening of West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing (WSFSSH)’s Mill Brook Terrace Apartments in the Bronx on September 13th. The apartment complex has created homes for 158 seniors, including 48 for supportive tenants.

On July 14th YWCA of the Niagara Frontier joined project and government partners to celebrate the opening of their new supportive housing residence, 49 Tremont Street. Located in North Tonawanda, the residence is creating 12 new permanent supportive housing apartments for single survivors of domestic violence. Services are provided on-site by YWCA of the Niagara Frontier, funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) through New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA).

On June 28th, CARES of NY joined with government partners and elected officials for the grand opening of Second Street Family Apartments and Elm Street Estates in Albany. These two new supportive housing residences are creating 15 new homes for formerly homeless individuals, youth, and young parents. Social services will be provided by CARES of NY, funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) through New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA).

On July 19th, Citizen Advocates joined project and government partners to break ground on a new affordable/supportive housing residence, Harison Place. When complete it will create 40 new units of affordable housing – 20 of which will be supportive – in Malone, New York. Citizen Advocates will provide onsite services funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) through New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH).

Located in Cortland, the residence is creating 25 new supportive housing apartments for survivors of domestic violence and their families. Christopher Community developed the project and onsite services are provided by YWCA Cortland funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) through New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA).

On July 27th Services for the UnderServed (S:US) and Bronx Pro Group joined Governor Kathy Hochul, Mayor Eric Adams, and project partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of Phase I of their new affordable/supportive housing residence, Starhill. When complete, the residence will create 326 new units of affordable and supportive housing, including 200 supportive units for formerly homeless individuals with substance use disorders. S:US will provide on-site services funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) administered through the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS).

On the beautiful summer day of July 14th, Project Renewal joined New York City Mayor Eric Adams alongside government and project partners to celebrate the opening of Phase I of a new supportive/affordable housing complex, Bedford Green House in the Bronx. The first phase of Bedford Green has created 117 new affordable/supportive housing units, including 71 supportive for formerly homeless individuals and families. Project Renewal will provide on-site services funded by NY/NY III through NYC DOHMH and HRA (HASA).
