The Supportive Housing Network of New York was honored to participate in Governor Cuomo's January 18th Press Conference announcing his 2015 Opportunity Agenda and ten point plan to combat poverty and fight inequality.

The Network was one of only four organizations invited by the Governor to speak, which reflects the critical role supportive housing plays in the battle against poverty in New York State.  The Network's ability to be at the table and the recognition that supportive housing is a proven solution to lifting the most vulnerable among us out of poverty is a credit to the extraordinary work our more than 200 members do every day.

The plan features $183 million in new housing investment including 5,000 units of supportive housing.  This new NY/NY 4 plan will, for the first time, be a statewide supportive housing effort - which we hope will serve as the catalyst for future and ongoing commitments from both New York State and New York City for additional supportive housing.  We look forward to working with our government partners to meet and exceed this commitment.

We thank Governor Cuomo and his staff for their commitment to improving the lives of homeless New Yorkers and for the Governor's lifelong support of supportive housing as the most effective means of helping our most vulnerable citizens live in better health and dignity in our communities. His announcement was all the more meaningful given that it was made on the eve of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday.
