RUPCO Opens East End II

On September 6th, RUPCO hosted a ribbon cutting for their East End II project in Newburgh. The $36 million project includes 24 building sites in a seven-block radius, comprising 61 mixed-income homes. 10 of the homes are funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) and are set aside for people living with Substance Use Disorder and youth and adults re-entering the community from incarceration. The scattered site development centers around the adaptive reuse of the historic United Methodist Church into a vibrant community center called Highpoint, which will be managed by the Newburgh-based nonprofit LYNC.

Services for the UnderServed Opens Jerome Court

May.25.2023

On May 24th, Services for the UnderServed (S:US) and Bronx Pro Group along with government and project partners held a housewarming for their newly re-built supportive/affordable residence Jerome Court, in the Mount Hope section of the Bronx. The new building has 105 supportive and 69 affordable apartments for individuals and families, with services provided by S:US through funding under NYC 15/15 through the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Services for the Underserved Opens Alabama Avenue

On a sunny Wednesday, May 10th Services for the UnderServed (S:US) joined project partners and elected officials for a housewarming celebration of Alabama Avenue. Alabama Avenue brings 71 apartments, of which 43 are supportive, to East New York, Brooklyn. On-site services will be provided by Services for the UnderServed funded by NYC 15/15 through the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH).

Housing Visions and Behavioral Health Services North, Inc. Open Northwoods

On December 13th, Housing Visions and Behavioral Health Services North, Inc. (BHSN) joined project partners and elected officials to celebrate the opening of a new affordable and supportive housing residence, Northwoods. Located in the Town of Plattsburgh, Northwoods has created 80 units of affordable housing, including 40 supportive housing units. BHSN will provide onsite services funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) through New York State Office of Mental Health (NYS OMH).

Breaking Ground Opens 90 Sands

On November 3rd, Breaking Ground was joined by 100 project partners, electeds and well-wishers to celebrate its ribbon cutting and official opening of 90 Sands located in one of the most expensive neighborhoods in New York City, DUMBO. A former hotel for the Jehovah’s Witnesses, 90 Sands is second only to Breaking Ground’s Times Square in size, providing a total of 491 affordable apartments for individuals and families, including 305 for people who have experienced homelessness. On-site services are provided by Center for Urban Community Services (CUCS) and funded by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Ithaca Neighborhood Services and the Salvation Army Open Founders Way

On November 4th, Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services (INHS) and the Salvation Army Syracuse Area joined project partners and the Mayor of Ithaca to celebrate the opening of Founders Way. Located in Ithaca this new mixed-use, mixed income community has created four new buildings with 75 affordable apartments, including 22 supportive housing units for young adults and survivors of domestic violence. Onsite services are provided by Salvation Army- Empire Division in partnership with the Advocacy Center and Learning Web funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) administered by New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA).

Camber, Slate, and Westhab open Tremont Residences

On October 18th, project partners gathered to celebrate the opening of Tremont Residences, developed by Camber Property Group and Slate Property Group with services by Westhab. The 11-story building in the West Farms area of the Bronx provides 119 affordable apartments of which 71 are supportive funded by the NYS Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative through the NYS Office of Mental Health.

WSFSSH Opens WSFSSH at West 108th

On a beautiful spring-like morning October 25th, West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing (WSFSSH) held a joyous opening of their new supportive/affordable complex ‘WSFSSH at West 108’ with more than 100 partners, staff and well-wishers. The new complex is co-located with the new Valley Lodge shelter and provides 199 apartments for a mix of individuals and families, including 119 supportive.

Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens Opens Bishop Rene A. Valero Senior Residence

On a sunny October 7th, Catholic Charities Progress of People’s Development Corporation (CCPOP), the affordable housing arm of Catholic Charities of Brooklyn and Queens, joined project and government partners for an opening and dedication ceremony for The Bishop Rene A. Valero Senior Residence. Located in Astoria, Queens this new affordable/supportive housing residence is creating 102 new affordable apartments, including 31 supportive for formerly homeless seniors. CCPOP will provide on-site social services funded through NYC 15/15 supportive housing initiative through the Department of Social Services.

Transitional Services for New York Opens The Mieles

On September 15th, Transitional Services for New York Inc. (TSINY) joined city and state officials along with project and government partners to celebrate the opening of a new affordable/supportive housing residence located in Jamaica, Queens, the Mieles. The beautiful new building, which stands on the grounds of one of New York’s first supportive residences, creates 70 new affordable apartments, 42 of which are supportive for low-income seniors and chronically homeless individuals with psychiatric disabilities. TSINY will provide onsite services funded by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene through NYC 15/15 funding.
