RUPCO Breaks Ground on Silver Gardens

On April 18th, RUPCO joined project partners and elected officials to break ground on their new project,  Silver Gardens. Once complete this new affordable/supportive building will bring 57 new affordable apartments, including 29 supportive for seniors experiencing or at risk of homelessness, in the Town of Lloyd in Ulster County. On-site services are provided by RUPCO and funded through the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) administered by the New York State Department of Health.

Community Housing Innovations Breaks Ground on Mt. Hope Plaza

On April 12th, Community Housing Innovations and the Mt. Hope Community Development Corporation joined project partners and elected officials to break ground on a new affordable/supportive housing residence, Mt. Hope Plaza in White Plains. When complete, Mt. Hope Plaza will create 56 affordable apartments, including 20 supportive for seniors experiencing homelessness. On-site services are provided by Community Housing Innovations, Inc. and are funded by the New York State Office of Mental Health (NYS OMH) administered by the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) for persons who are over the age of 62 with a serious mental illness and homeless or have an unmet housing need. The development is the result of a partnership with the Mt. Hope A.M.E Zion Church to construct affordable housing on an underutilized parcel owned by the church.

CAMBA Housing Ventures and CAMBA Break Ground on Clarkson Estates

On December 5th partners, funders, staff, and friends gathered under a tent on the grounds of what will be CAMBA Housing Ventures/CAMBA’s Clarkson Estates in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, to break ground on the project which is part of the State’s Vital Brooklyn initiative. Once complete, this project will provide 328 units of permanently affordable and supportive housing with 50% of the units (164 units) set aside for formerly homeless populations, including youth aging out of foster care, formerly incarcerated individuals, formerly homeless young adults, and formerly homeless families. The other 163 units will serve low-income individuals at 30%, 40%, 50%, and 70% area median income (AMI), with one unit set aside for a live-in superintendent. Clarkson Estates will feature more than 30,000 square feet of community facility space and nearly 15,000 square feet of parking as requested through community input. Services and rental subsidy are funded by the New York State Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) contracted through the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA).

Breaking Ground Breaks Ground on Sutphin Senior Housing

On Wednesday, September 20th, Breaking Ground joined project partners and elected and government officials to break ground on affordable/supportive housing residence, Sutphin Senior Housing. When complete, Sutphin Senior Housing will create 173 new affordable apartments, including 52 supportive for seniors, in Jamaica, Queens. On-site services will be provided by Breaking Ground funded by NYC 15/15 through New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH).

West Side Federation for Senior Supportive Housing Break Ground on Fischer Senior Apartments

Some 50 staff and partners turned out September 12th to break ground on West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing’s (WSFSSH) Fischer Senior Apartments, a new apartment complex in the Highbridge section of the Bronx that will provide affordable homes to 105 seniors including 54 supportive units. Onsite services will be funded by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene through the NYC 15/15 Supportive Housing Initiative.

Christopher Community and Crouse Community Break Ground on Community View Apartments

On August 22nd, Christopher Community held a groundbreaking ceremony for Community View Apartments, an affordable/supportive housing project in Morrisville, New York.  This 61-unit building has 20 units set aside for ESSHI seniors, with services provided by Crouse Community Health Care.   Services will be funded by the NYS Department of Health and will include home aides, day programs, social activities and nutritional counselling.

Comunilife Breaks Ground on the Comunilife Throop Residence

On April 27th, Comunilife joined Health and Hospitals (NYC H+H) and other project partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of new affordable and supportive housing residence, The Comunilife Throop Residence. Located in Brooklyn, the Residence will create 93 affordable apartments, including 56 supportive for NYC Health + Hospitals patients, and 21 units for very low-income seniors. On-site service are provided by Comunilife funded through NYC 15/15 administered by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH).

The Network Hosts a Legislative Week of Action

The Network hosted a Legislative Week of Action from March 13th-17th to urge the New York State Senate and Assembly to support crucial supportive housing investments in the final State Budget. This was hosted in lieu of the Network’s 2023 Lobby Day in Albany, which had to be canceled due to inclement weather. After a tweet storm and a call-in Day, the Legislative Week of Action culminated in simultaneous Albany and New York City rallies on Friday, March 17th.

RiseBoro Community Partnership and Services for the UnderServed Break Ground on Alafia Phase I

On December 19th, RiseBoro Community Partnership and Services for the UnderServed (S:US) joined development partners and elected officials to celebrate the groundbreaking of Alafia Phase I in East New York, Brooklyn. Phase I of Alafia will create 452 affordable apartments, including 136 supportive housing units. On-site services are provided by S:US funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) administered by the New York State Office of Mental Health and the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPDD).

Project Renewal Breaks Ground on Bedford Green House Phase II

On a brisk December 9th, Project Renewal joined project partners, funders and elected officials to break ground on Bedford Green House Phase II. When completed, this residence will create 116 new affordable apartments, 70 supportive, in Fordham Heights in the Bronx. Project Renewal will provide onsite services funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) through the New York State Office of Mental Health (NYS OMH).
