On March 19th, the Network released a guide for organizations thinking about preserving their supportive housing residences in tandem with a NetWorkshop featuring preservation experts. What to Think About When You’re Preserving is intended as a short compendium of resources and links as well as tips for how to frame the often-daunting endeavor for tenants, organizations and their boards. Read the guide HERE.

The NetWorkshop was moderated by the Network’s Chief Policy Officer Rebecca Zangen and featured Paul Sawyier, Executive Director of Federally Assisted Portfolio Loan Programs at NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development (HPD), Ross Karp, Downstate Development Director, NYS Homes and Community Renewal (HCR), Christina Byrne, Executive Director of St. Francis Friends of the Poor and Katie Devine, Principal at Rockabill.

While Paul and Ross laid out the various parameters for the preservation programs at HPD and HCR -– what the City and State will and won’t fund – Christina talked about the real-life experience of putting three of the oldest supportive housing residences in the City into the preservation pipeline. Katie, meanwhile, talked about the importance providers figuring out what they are looking for from the preservation process and then ensuring they have the help they need to get through the process. See the NetWorkshop recording HERE.
