Supportive Housing Key to Ending Veteran Homelessness on Long Island
State Senators Tom Croci and Phil Boyle, Assembly Member Phil Ramos, Suffolk County Legislator Steve Stern, Suffolk County Veteran Services Director Thomas Ronayne and community leaders used the 27th Annual Keys for the Homeless Conference to call for the creation of 35,000 supportive housing units statewide. Held two days after Veterans Day, the event focused on how supportive housing can help to end veteran homelessness.
“I am proud to join my Senate colleagues to advocate for an additional 35,000 units of supportive housing throughout New York State, said Senator Tom Croci, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security, Veterans, and Military Affairs. By working together, we can identify solutions like supportive housing, to address this urgent issue facing our region,”
“The State of New York must make it a priority to provide the resources necessary to bring an end to our veteran homelessness crisis,” said New York State Senator Phil Boyle. “One of these resources is supportive housing.”
“I am excited to work with my fellow colleagues in the Legislature, along with the Governor, to provide 35,000 supportive housing units to those in the state who need them most,” said Assemblyman Phil Ramos (D-Brentwood). “We can’t afford to stand by any longer. We need more supportive housing projects like Liberty Village that provide essential services and housing to our homeless veterans.”
“As the Chairman of the Veterans and Seniors Committee of the Suffolk County Legislature and as the author of the landmark "Housing Our Homeless Heroes Act," I call on the state to fund 35,000 units of supportive housing so that we may provide integrated services and housing to those who have served our great nation and their families," said Suffolk County Legislator Steve Stern.
