BRC Breaks Ground on Beach Channel Drive

On October 28th, BRC joined project partners and elected officials to celebrate the groundbreaking of Beach Channel Drive. Located in Far Rockaway, Queens, Beach Channel Drive will include 147 new affordable and supportive apartments, including 88 supportive units, as well as 100 shelter beds with supportive services for single women. Persons aged 55+ will receive a preference for 50% of the supportive apartments.  On-site services are provided by BRC funded through NYC 15/15 administered by New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Camber, Slate, and Westhab open Tremont Residences

On October 18th, project partners gathered to celebrate the opening of Tremont Residences, developed by Camber Property Group and Slate Property Group with services by Westhab. The 11-story building in the West Farms area of the Bronx provides 119 affordable apartments of which 71 are supportive funded by the NYS Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative through the NYS Office of Mental Health.

The Network Joins a Coalition of Behavioral Health Advocates for Rallies for an 8.5% COLA

The Network joined a coalition of behavioral health advocates in Albany on October 25th and in New York City on October 26th for rallies calling for an 8.5% COLA in the SFY 2023-24 State Budget. The rallies stressed the collective concerns on the dire workforce shortage challenging the behavioral health sector and urged Governor Hochul to include the statutory COLA, tied to the July CPI-U at 8.5%, in her SFY 2023-24 Executive Budget Proposal.

WSFSSH Opens WSFSSH at West 108th

On a beautiful spring-like morning October 25th, West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing (WSFSSH) held a joyous opening of their new supportive/affordable complex ‘WSFSSH at West 108’ with more than 100 partners, staff and well-wishers. The new complex is co-located with the new Valley Lodge shelter and provides 199 apartments for a mix of individuals and families, including 119 supportive.

Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens Opens Bishop Rene A. Valero Senior Residence

On a sunny October 7th, Catholic Charities Progress of People’s Development Corporation (CCPOP), the affordable housing arm of Catholic Charities of Brooklyn and Queens, joined project and government partners for an opening and dedication ceremony for The Bishop Rene A. Valero Senior Residence. Located in Astoria, Queens this new affordable/supportive housing residence is creating 102 new affordable apartments, including 31 supportive for formerly homeless seniors. CCPOP will provide on-site social services funded through NYC 15/15 supportive housing initiative through the Department of Social Services.

The Network Joins CCIT-NYC NYC for a Rally to Transform Mental Health Crisis Response in New York

On September 29th the Network joined Correct Crisis Intervention Today NYC (CCIT-NYC) for a rally to transform mental health crisis responses in New York, held in memory of Miguel Richards, who was shot by NYPD during a wellness check requested by his landlord five years ago.

New Destiny Opens The Kira

On September 20th, New Destiny, BFC Partners and SMJ Development along with well-wishers and partners celebrated the official opening of The Kira in Jamaica, Queens. The affordable/supportive residence provides homes to 139 households including 69 units for families coming from NYC domestic violence shelters. Onsite services funded by the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) through the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative are provided by New Destiny.

WSFSSH Cuts Ribbon on Mill Brook Terrace Apartments

Having begun to rent up just before the COVID lock-down, staff, electeds and project partners were finally able to safely celebrate the opening of West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing (WSFSSH)’s Mill Brook Terrace Apartments in the Bronx on September 13th. The apartment complex has created homes for 158 seniors, including 48 for supportive tenants.

Services for the UnderServed Breaks Ground on Starhill

On July 27th Services for the UnderServed (S:US) and Bronx Pro Group joined Governor Kathy Hochul, Mayor Eric Adams, and project partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of Phase I of their new affordable/supportive housing residence, Starhill. When complete, the residence will create 326 new units of affordable and supportive housing, including 200 supportive units for formerly homeless individuals with substance use disorders. S:US will provide on-site services funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) administered through the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS).
