This comprehensive report explores homelessness trends in America from 2009 to 2011. It finds a 1% drop in overall homeless and a 3% drop in chronic homelessness during this time period. The report explicitly heralds supportive housing for the 3% reduction, stating, "A primary reason for the downward trend in chronic homelessness is the increasing use of permanent supportive housing, an intervention shown to be effective and cost effective in ending chronic homelessness." In New York, the NAEH analysis finds a more than 10% drop in chronic homelessness.
