Regional Enrollment Center (REC)
RECs are places where the children of these front-line workers can be safely cared for while their parents continue to serve the city in this time of need. Staffed by DOE employees and community-based organization partners, the centers will provide children with three daily hot meals, remote learning time with their teachers, activities like art, music, and physical education, and social and emotional support. When filling out the REC enrollment form, under occupation, select the “DOHMH Essential Staff”, “Other Healthcare Essential Staff”, or “Other” boxes. If you have any issues please contact tlabrada@shnny.org.

CARES Child Care Scholarships
NYS is making $30 million available for free child care to essential workers at no cost to the worker. Essential workers using a licensed or registered child care provider will receive a scholarship for the cost of care through May 15th, 2020. To qualify for the scholarship, workers must have a household income less than 300 percent of the federal poverty level, or $78,600 annually for a family of four. The CARES Child Care Scholarship will be available as long as the funds to support it are available – we encourage all eligible persons to apply ASAP as funding is limited. Please see here for more information on the application process. There was also an article in the Times Union about this.
