This document offers an assessment of New York City's Department of Homeless Services (DHS). It is just one part of the larger Mayor's Management Report (MMR). The report finds that, in fiscal year 2010, 19,607 single adults and 14,586 families with children entered the DHS shelter system. It costs roughly $69 a day for a single adult and $100 a day for a family to remain in these shelters.
