In March, the Network's Policy & Programs Manager, Katie Mui delivered testimony at three New York City Council FY27 Preliminary Budget Hearings: the Committee on General Welfare the Committee on Housing and Buildings, and the Committee on Mental Health & Substance Use.
Katie urged the City to invest $44 million in capital funding and $21.3 million to preserve 325 supportive housing units in FY27. She stressed that more than 7,623 units are prime for preservation due to their age and the instability of their rental subsidies and service contracts, and that these investments are critical to the stability of nonprofit providers and formerly homeless New Yorkers.
Katie also emphasized the need for the Council to fund the 3% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for City-contracted human services workers, pass Intro 452, the Human Services Wage Equity Legislation, and to raise the baseline funding for the Peer Behavioral Workforce to $6 million in FY27.
