The Network applauds and extends our appreciation to the New York City Council Progressive Caucus for their FY27 Budget Proposal, Rentals within Reach. This campaign centers smart investments to ensure over 20,000 New Yorkers have access to quality publicly funded housing, including supportive housing.
One of their two priorities is a $78 million investment to preserve and renovate supportive housing units, including:
- A $13 million flexible expense pot to renovate or repair up to 1,000 units
- $44 million in Capital and $21.3 million in Expense funding to preserve at least 325 units in FY27
We thank the Progressive Caucus, led by Councilmembers Sandy Nurse, Tiffany Cabán, Kayla Santosuosso, and Alexa Avilés, for the continued partnership and support, and Councilmembers Lincoln Restler and Althea Stevens for penning an op-ed highlighting the need for these critical investments, even during a lean budget year.
