New Destiny Housing Breaks Ground on McLean Place image

On September 9th, New Destiny Housing joined project partners and elected officials to celebrate the groundbreaking McLean Place. Once complete, this new affordable and supportive housing residence in The Bronx will provide 72 new affordable apartments, including 43 supportive for housing for homeless domestic violence survivors in shelter. On-site services will be provided by New Destiny Housing funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) administered by the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA).

Chief Executive Officer of New Destiny Housing Nicole Branca, who emceed the program, said, “Supportive housing has proven time and again how effective it is in helping domestic violence survivors and their families rebuild their lives and stay violence-free. McLean Place will give 43 families impacted by abuse the opportunity to engage with supportive resources, heal, and thrive.”

NYC Council Member and Chair of Committee on Children and Youth Althea Stevens said, “I am proud to see New Destiny Housing’s continued commitment to District 16. The groundbreaking of McLean Place is a powerful reminder of what happens when the needs of our community are prioritized.”  

Remarks were also provided by New Destiny Board Chair, Nicole Firment; NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development Deputy Commissioner, Meryl Block Weissman; NYS Office of Temporary & Disability Assistance Assistant Director, Brenda McAteer; Capital One Senior Director of Community Finance, Loretta Duffy; and a warm tribute from the family of New Destiny’s founding Executive Director, Charles E. McLean, Jr.

Financing for the project is provided by NYC HPD’s Supportive Housing Loan Program (SHLLP), New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance’s (OTDA) Homeless Housing and Assistance Program (HHAP), Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) and Deutsche Bank pre-development funding and a construction loan by Capital One.

McLean Place will feature amenities such as a community room and common kitchen, fitness room, spacious back yard, walk-out roof, on-site laundry, and a bike room. It will also be built to Passive Housing energy efficiency standards, including high-efficiency, all-electric appliances and building system, and solar power.

The General Contractor Penta Restoration Corporation and the Architect is MAP.
