On January 7th, Network Executive Director Pascale Leone published an op-ed in the Times Union titled “Commentary: Amid federal threats, supportive housing needs state's full support.” In the piece, Pascale highlights the urgent need to strengthen and safeguard supportive housing in New York State as federal threats to Continuum of Care (CoC) funding put critical programs at risk.
The op-ed notes that while Governor Hochul and the State Legislature enacted the largest funding increase in the New York State Supportive Housing Program’s history last year—$17.8 million—this progress falls short of addressing decades of underinvestment. Pascale urges the State to build on this momentum by including $62.1 million for NYSSHP in the upcoming budget, and points to a sign-on letter led by the Network and supported by more than 100-member organizations and partners. She also calls on state leaders to work with federal representatives to protect vital housing resources. Read the full op-ed in the Times Union HERE.
