Network Chief Policy Officer on Capitol Pressroom: Older supportive housing units requesting more government support image

12.24.2025

On December 22nd Network Chief Policy Officer Rebecca Zangen spoke with David Lombardo on The Capitol Pressroom about the urgent need for increased investment in supportive housing across New York State, particularly for older, first-generation supportive housing units.

During the interview, Rebecca emphasized that federal funding for the Continuum of Care (Coc)program is currently at risk making the it more important than ever for the State to step in to protect these resources and ensure the long-term stability of supportive housing. She stressed that without increased sustained investment, New York risks losing existing units and displacing residents who rely on them.

"Our long term goal is to achieve funding parity across all of the State's supportive housing programs,” Rebecca said. “This is extremely urgent because we are losing these units. And people are losing their housing as every year passes. We knew it would take five years of concerted investment to bring the first-generation program up to modern standards. We are asking the Governor and the legislature to invest $62M this year."
