On July 22nd, Home Leasing and Eagle Star Housing joined project partners to celebrate the opening of Huntington Apartments, which was previously home to the iconic Huntington Building. This new residence brings new 53 affordable apartments, including 27 supportive apartments for homeless veterans, to the Village of Seneca Falls. On-site services are provided by Eagle Star Housing, funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) administered by New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA).

Home Leasing Chief Executive Officer Megan Houppert opened the program and remarked, “Home Leasing is pleased to celebrate the completion of Huntington Apartments to create 53 affordable apartments, including 27 with supportive services for veterans. As one of the Landmark Society’s Five to Revive, the project preserves Seneca Fall’s heritage while creating energy efficient housing solutions. We are grateful to New York State Homes and Community Renewal, the Department of State, the community of Seneca Falls and all our partners who made this project possible.”

J.P. Morgan Community Development Banking Chase Bank Vice President Tammy Wise remarked, “We are proud to collaborate with Home Leasing in the rehabilitation of this historic property, making a meaningful impact on the lives of many Seneca Falls residents. This project exemplifies our commitment to preserving architectural heritage and providing essential affordable and supportive housing, thereby strengthening the fabric of this dynamic community."

Landmark Society of Western New York Executive Director Wayne Goodman said, “The Huntington Apartments project represents what makes preservation so meaningful. The project provides quality affordable housing to those who need it most, demonstrating the adaptability of our most historic buildings. The building was placed on our organization’s Five to Revive list in 2018 to recognize the building’s importance, as well as it’s vulnerable future.  What began as a local effort to save an irreplaceable historic building evolved into a much-needed community asset that helps maintain Seneca Falls’ authentic sense of place. Thanks to the many partners who contributed to this project’s success, the Huntington Building will now serve a vital role in improving lives.”

Seneca County IDA Executive Director Sarah Davis said, “The Seneca County IDA was pleased to provide incentives to support adaptive reuse and new housing in our community. We offer our appreciation to Home Leasing and all the government agencies and community partners that came together to make this project happen and hope this will be one of many to come.”

Huntington Apartments Resident Greg Sirianni said, “I am thankful for Huntington Apartments and Eagle Star Housing for throwing me a life raft in a time that I was in need of a better housing situation. I now have a beautiful apartment and beautiful building to call home."

Remarks were also given by Erin Corcoran, Eagle Star Housing Executive Vice President and COO; Leonard Skril, New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) Assistant Commissioner; and Frank E. Schmitter, Town of Seneca Falls Town Supervisor.

Building amenities include a community room, on-site laundry and bike storage, playground, and fitness center.

Funding for this project comes from New York State Homes and Community Renewal’s (HCR) Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, Federal and State Tax Credits from the New York State Historic Preservation Office, the Department of State’s (DOS) Downtown Revitalization Initiative, the New York State Energy Research and Development (NYSERDA) Authority High-Rise Multi-Family New Construction program and a loan from the Community Preservation Corporation.

The general contractor is Home Leasing Construction (HLC) and the architect is Hunt Engineers, Architects & Surveyors.
