On September 3rd, Comunilife joined Governor Hochul, project partners and elected officials to celebrate the opening of El Hogar. Located in the Bronx, this new affordable and supportive housing residence is creating 83 apartments for older adults, including 50 supportive for older adults experiencing homelessness. On-site support services are provided by Comunilife and are funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) and administered by the NYS Department of Health.
At the opening, Governor Hochul said, “Every New Yorker deserves the security of a safe, affordable place to live, including the seniors who have spent their lives contributing to our communities. El Hogar Residence will provide older New Yorkers with high-quality, affordable homes and the supportive services they need to live independently and with dignity. Projects like this are central to our efforts to make New York more affordable, prevent homelessness and ensure that New Yorkers can age safely in the communities of their choice.”
Comunilife’s President and CEO Blanca Ramirez said, “Today marks the opening of 83 new homes. This feels especially meaningful because the name of this residence is ‘El Hogar’, which means ‘the home.’ Home is so much more than four walls and a roof. Home is where we feel safe. It is where we belong. It is where we build relationships, creates memories and find comfort and stability. Home is where we should be able to age with dignity, surrounded by community and support. Today we celebrate the creation of that home for 83 seniors.”
