On June 11th, Barrier Free Living joined project partners and elected officials to celebrate the opening of new supportive housing residence, Freedom Village. Located on the Lower East Side, this fully supportive project has created 74 apartments for survivors of domestic violence and older adults. On-site support services are provided by Barrier Free Living and are funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) administered by NYS Office for Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA).
At the opening, Barrier Free Living CEO Cynthia Amodeo said, “Freedom Village is unique in that it creates a permanent housing environment that is welcoming to people of all abilities. Every apartment and community space was designed to be fully accessible. Our partners throughout this project have shared our commitment to creating a beautiful, inclusive housing community that goes beyond standard accessibility requirement.”
