Supportive Housing and Community Investment
Results from the Supportive Housing Community Benefits Survey
In 2007, the Network surveyed 63 New York City supportive housing providers to learn how their buildings have impacted local communities. The results reveal a number of interesting trends. Among them, 93% of supportive housing providers hired locally for permanent jobs while 81% of them bought construction materials from local vendors. The Network also found that 70% of providers shared building resources like in-house computer labs with the community. Lastly, the Network gathered a wealth of sustainability data, which show a marked increase in eco-friendly practices in supportive housing.
