A Survey of Common Spaces in Supportive Housing

This 2011 report surveys the use of common space areas in six supportive housing residences. Common spaces include lobbies, yards and gardens, computer labs and lounges. Interviews were conducted with building management, social service staff and tenants to get their feedback on usage of the different common areas, what they felt was effective and ineffective about the design and what they thought could be improved. Overall, respondents viewed the common space areas as attractive, uplifting and sufficient.
The survey included buildings from the following supportive housing providers: Bowery Residents' Committee, Community Access, Jericho Project, Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter/WHEDco, Community Counseling & Mediation and Project Renewal.
