A Snapshot of Supportive Housing in New York State

Key Findings from the 2006 Supportive Housing Population Survey

In 2006, the Network surveyed New York's nonprofit providers to get comprehensive picture of supportive housing in the state. Though the precise numbers have no doubt shifted, the general trends likely remain. Among them, the Network found that African-Americans were disproportionately represented in supportive housing, the majority of tenants suffered from health problems, disabilities and age prevented the majority of tenants from working, tenants drew on a variety of sources for financial support, most tenants enter supportive housing from temporary housing situations and the majority of the state's supportive housing units were in New York City. In total, the Network received 253 completed survey responses from agencies across New York State.
