Palladia, Inc.

Helping families and the most vulnerable in New York City
Every day, roughly 1,700 struggling New Yorkers receive some form of help from Palladia, Inc. They do so through the organization’s many service programs, which range from supportive housing to substance abuse treatment. Palladia has remained a human service innovator since 1970; its 20-plus programs provide short- and long-term assistance to New Yorkers of many stripes.
The New York City nonprofit has offered permanent supportive housing since the mid-1990s. In recent years, Palladia has taken part in two pioneering pilot programs to house vulnerable families and individuals: Keeping Families Together (KFT) and Frequent User Service Enhancement (FUSE).
KFT placed 29 families who had previous involvement with homeless shelters and foster care into permanent supportive housing. Palladia housed four of those 29 families; all four of those families went on to achieve family stability. Like FUSE, KFT was a collaboration between Palladia and the Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH).
“Palladia was and is an incredible partner in the project,” says Alison Harte, a senior program manager at CSH’s New York branch. “Their expertise, professionalism and dedication to their work is extraordinary. They truly do whatever it takes to keep families together.”
Palladia’s FUSE Scattered-Site Housing Program provides housing and services to 33 adults with substance abuse disorders and a history of incarceration or homelessness. The program targets those who habitually rely on public services such as emergency rooms, hospitals and homeless shelters. These individuals aren’t just New York’s neediest; they’re New York’s costliest as well. In this state alone, 10% of all Medicaid users comprise about 57% of Medicaid’s annual expenses. FUSE aims to lessen these public costs through the preventative measures of housing and case management.
“Most of these people are dealing with substance abuse problems,” says Crystal Foy, the FUSE program coordinator at Palladia. “In order for people to be successful in their recovery, they need stabilized housing. It’s also way cheaper than having someone in hospitals and shelters for years.”
Through FUSE, KFT and other programs, Palladia operates over 400 units of supportive housing across New York City. Its commitment to serving individuals with complex needs through innovative, cutting-edge practices has made it a leader in the field for decades.
