Pilot Program Methodology
The Living Green Education Pilot Program relies on an understanding of tenant habits and building environments. As such, the Green Housing Initiative explored these factors before developing its educational activities. The initial series was undertaken from April to September 2011 and followed a sequence of steps to engage tenants and staff. See the steps below and follow links for sample documents.
- Identify building(s) that are interested in pursuing the conservation education pilot program and secure building, staff and agency commitments to take part in the education effort.
- Meet with building staff to identify specific tenant issues and possible tactics for creating an education program for tenants. Survey the staff regarding tenant behavior. (Staff Survey of Tenants)
- Meet with tenants to identify and understand their current behavior patterns and determine the most useful approaches to change. Questions to residents will be based on building staff responses. (Tenant Meeting Invitation) (Sample Tenant Survey)
- Prepare multiple lesson plans based on topics identified with staff and tenants and utilizing teaching tactics best suited to tenant capabilities and interests. (Lesson Plans)
- Recognition: All residents who participate should be acknowledged for their efforts and encouraged to practice what they have learned and share their knowledge with other tenants in the building. Certificates should be tailored to reflect what was learned. (Certificate of Recognition).
- Meet with building staff and agency administration to discuss effectiveness of program and follow-up activities.
